A Complete Guide to Ouzoud Waterfalls

Located just 90 minutes from Villa A Guest House, the Ouzoud Waterfalls (Cascades d'Ouzoud) are the highest and most spectacular waterfalls in North Africa. The name 'Ouzoud' translates to 'the act of grinding grain' in the local Berber language, referencing the historic mills that still operate near the falls today.

A well-maintained path leads you from the top of the falls down to the base through a shaded olive grove. Along the way, you are almost guaranteed to encounter troops of wild Barbary macaques — they are used to humans but please avoid feeding them unhealthy snacks. The hike down takes about 30-45 minutes at a relaxed pace with plenty of stops for photos.

At the bottom of the canyon, you can take a short boat ride right up to the misty base of the falls for a small fee (around 20 MAD). In the warmer months, the pools at the base are perfect for a refreshing swim. Several traditional restaurants line the river, offering excellent spots to enjoy a slow-cooked tagine while watching the water cascade down the red sandstone cliffs.
