Beni Mellal's historic spring and gardens
Just a 15-minute drive from Villa A lies Ain Asserdoun, the lush, beating heart of Beni Mellal. The name means 'The Spring of the Mule' in Berber, and it has been the source of the region's agricultural wealth for centuries. The spring pumps out pure, cold water from deep within the Atlas Mountains, feeding the city's vast olive and orange groves.
The area is laid out in beautifully manicured, terraced gardens connected by small waterfalls and streams. It's a favorite spot for local families to picnic, walk, and cool off during the hot summer months. Small cafes line the water, serving excellent mint tea.
A short, steep walk up the hill from the spring brings you to Ras el-Ain, a small, square Kasbah (fortress) built in the 17th century by Sultan Moulay Ismail. While you cannot go inside the tower, the terrace around it provides an unmatched, sweeping view over the Tadla plain and the city of Beni Mellal.
Getting There
It's a very short drive or a 15-20 MAD taxi ride from the center of Beni Mellal. Parking is available near the entrance.
